2012 Kotzebue AK

These are some strong images of Kotzebue, an Inupiaq community on the shore of the Chukchi Sea, above the arctic circle and 162 miles from Siberia. These photos are not and cannot summarize the rich culture, community warmth, or the wild beauty of Kotzebue. They are simply some of the stronger images that struck me as we stayed in the village and met what seemed like half the residents. Many of these buildings are on the "front" street, Shore Avenue, facing the ocean, and show the ravages of time, harsh seas and storms, and even destructive ice-flows coming ashore.
